While everyone’s eyes and TV’s might be bouncing back and forth between the Final Four and the playoff pushes in the NBA and NHL this weekend and next, the world of NASCAR has heated up and charged into full gear.
The next race in the Sprint Cup is April 10 at Phoenix International Raceway. A late start at 7:30 p.m. will keep the racers on their toes. It’s the Subway Fresh Fit 600. The April race in Phoenix usually offers perfect racing weather, too.
Right now on the NASCAR scene, you’ve got a few familiar names up at the top of the standings. Everyone’s currently looking up at Jimmie Johnson with 898 points. His nearest competitor is Greg Biffle at 884. The major difference there is that Johnson already has won an astounding 3 races this early in the year. But with Gordon, Stewart and Earnhardt Jr. all in the top 10, Jimmie can’t rest easy even for a moment.
He’s on such a tear right now, I wouldn’t bet against him in any one-on-one matchup, and although I hardly ever recommend it, with the combination of the track and weather in Phoenix and Johnson’s momentum, I’d take $100 and throw it at him to win (or at least top 3) again in a week.
Also, watch out for Matt Kenseth, a name you don’t hear too often but has a handful of top finishes this season and sits comfortably at No. 3 on the board, only 2 points behind Biffle.
After the Phoenix race, the following two weeks take the racers to Texas and Talladega. Should be a fun month for NASCAR fans and gamblers alike.
